Mixing with the super-rich

In the end we stayed another day in Arki because Kai wanted to play with his Belgian friend, Elliot. We left Arki at dawn on Friday August 2nd, watching the sunrise over Arki, for the 55 mile sail to Amorgos.

Kai was still asleep, and slept most of the way to Amorgos.

We had a windy passage, most of the force 6, with a bit of force 7, with two metre waves and cross seas tossing us around, and a short period with the waves but no wind at all. We anchored off Amorgos, behind Kalotisi island, where the stillness was such a contrast after eight hours of big wind and waves.
which we had to ourselves until another boat arrived in the evening. In the bay behind the island it was perfectly calm, and with pitch darkness the stars were amazing.
We left early next morning
and again the wind was very variable, starting light but rising to a solid force 7 below Keros before dropping back to a 6 as we approached Skhinoussa. This time Kai read Missee Lee, which Simon had started reading to him the night before (reading him Arthur Ransome has become a holiday tradition).

Kai does not sleep and read (and play on the ipad) all the time. When he is needed he is very helpful, driving, getting the anchor up and down, pulling ropes and spotting problems - he is becoming an accomplished sailor.
We checked out the anchorages around Skhinoussa, but they were pretty windy, so we went into the main harbour, in which to our surprise there was only one other sailing boat, but two superyachts and quite a lot of  motor yachts. We anchored among the millionaires (that is us right of centre in the background).
We went up to the town for shopping and to have lunch at Deli Restaurant, which we had been to last year and which has wonderful food and a fantastic view.

After lunch Kai was determined to get onto one of the superyachts and swam ashore to carry out his mission. He disappeared. Late in the afternoon Lin heard his voice echoing round the bay and followed it up to a house on the hill behind, where Kai was swimming in the pool. He had talked his way onto a15 million pound superyacht (if you cannot afford 15 million you can charter it from 185,000 euros a week http://www.superyachts.com/yacht-ch arter/inspiration-1125/) to play with the kids.
The family have an estate at the back of the bay with three large houses and a helipad, from which one of them flew off to Athens in their helicopter.
Kai went back to play on the yacht,
but deigned to come back to us for dinner before going back to the yacht for movie night.
We have decided to stay in Skhinoussa until the wind moderates - at the moment it is forecast to be force 7+ for the next few days so we will wait for a weather window, or just have to go for it to get to Athens on August 17th to pick up Andrew and Charlie.
